Another Bar in the Bulge

A map of the projected density of the old stellar population of the Galactic Bulge region is reconstructed using 2MASS data. By making a combination of the H and K photometric bands , it is possible to overcome the effect of reddening, and thus penetrate the inner structure of the Galactic Bulge. The main structure in the map corresponds to the well documented peanut shaped bar which is formed ...

Equal before the Bar

I never intended to take a special role on the team or to become the story, but that’s what happened. By the end of the day, I had found the suspect in the Global Tag Challenge (I. Rahwan, et al., “Global Manhunt Pushes the Limits of Social Mobilization,” pp. 68-75) and was subsequently accused of demonstrating why crowdsourcing doesn’t work. I had become interested in crowdsourcing when people...

The Galactic Bulge

The Galactic bulge is the least studied component of our Galaxy. Yet, its formation and evolution are key to understand the formation of the Galaxy itself. Studies on the Galactic bulge have increased significantly in the last years, but still there are many points of controversy. This volume contains several contributions from experts in different aspects of the bulge. Issues discussed include...

A Metal-Acrylic Bar for Splinting Implant Impression Copings

Precise transfer of three-dimensional position of dental implants from oral cavity to the cast needs special considerations in impression making. It has been suggested to splint the copings by bars or acrylic resin material before making impression. Some problems regarding to polymerization shrinkage of acrylic resin have been reported. In this study, we describe a metalacrylic bar tha...

SOAR BVI Photometry of the Metal - poor Bulge Globular Cluster NGC 6642 ⋆

We present BVI photometry of the globular cluster NGC6642 using the SOI imager at the SOAR Telescope. The Colour Magnitude Diagrams (CMD) reach ≈ 1.5mag in V below the main sequence turn-off. A comparison of the overall sequences, and in particular the Red Giant Branch slope of NGC6642 with that of M5 indicates that the two clusters must have a similar metallicity of [Fe/H] ≈ −1.3. We also obta...
